Music Scores Big
with Younger Children
It’s no wonder Family Fun Magazine says “Victor Vito is really, truly
neato” and Children’s Music Web claims Victor Vito to be the Best
Recording for Toddlers. Laurie Berkner’s music is also a big hit with
parents!
Gone are the days when parents would cringe and reach for the pain
relievers and ear plugs whenever the big purple dinosaur would sing “I
love you, you love me!” Berkner has knack for writing and performing
children’s tunes. Parents are popping in the CDs because they too love to
sing along. The lyrics may be silly, but the music is very acceptable to
adult audiences.
Laurie Berkner has been involved with music since 1992, but her recent
success as a children's recording artist was a surprise to her. "It was so
unexpected," says Laurie. "I'd been performing in rock and struggling to
write original music. Writing music for kids has not been a struggle at
all. The more I started working on material for children, the more I
realized that it opened up creativity in me that I never knew I had."
After college, Laurie worked as music counselor at summer camps, and later
worked for several years as a children's music specialist at New York area
preschool and day care centers. Working with children became the perfect
creative outlet for Laurie to express her talents and create something
that, she says, "has turned out to be incredibly rewarding."
Laurie is a mom from Princeton, NJ. There are two other members in her
band, Susie Lampert, the pianist, is a longtime friend of Laurie's. Brian
Mueller, the bassist, is Laurie's husband! In addition to her CDs and
video, a new DVD will be released soon. Laurie also performs daily on the
TV show, Noggin. NOGGIN is the only commercial-free educational channel
dedicated to preschoolers 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. (Check your local
listing).

a great life lesson tucked neatly inside Laurie’s acoustic guitar flute,
