Ear training"Intervals: The Key to Big Ears!"

An interval is simply the distance between any two notes. When you hear a melody, can you hear what intervals are being used? Do you know when a singer is moving up a minor 6th, or down a perfect 4th?

You can in time -- and this instructional audio CD drills you on intervals from unisons to octaves. You'll learn the difference between consonant and dissonant intervals, major, minor, and perfect intervals, and how they invert. You'll get the CD plus a Summary Sheet showing the various intervals as they look on sheet music.

Train your ear to hear music"Training Your Ears To Hear Intervals of 2nds Through 13ths"

An interval is the distance between any two notes, and on this course you are going to learn to hear 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, 5ths, 6ths, 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths, and of course octaves & unisons. You will also learn to recognize them in printed music quickly.

If you learn to "hear" an interval in your mind, and know what it is, then it is easy to reproduce that interval on the keyboard -- and that, of course, is what "playing by ear" is all about -- mental hearing and then reproducing what you hear on the keyboard.

(This course is also excellent for singers and instrumentalists!)

"Hearing Chords & Differences In Chord Types"

Each type of chord gives off a mood of its own. By associating the mood, or emotion, with a specific chord type, you can soon learn to distinguish between the basic kinds of triads.  For example, minor chords sound more somber, more serious, than major chords. Why? Because of the way the intervals are "stacked" within the chord. A diminished chord sounds suspenseful, tense, nervous. An augmented chord has a distinctive sound, too. Learn how to hear, feel, and identify these chords, as well as extended chords (you'll learn how to listen for the "color tone" in any 4-note chord).

"How To Hear "Far-Out" Harmonies & Understand Them"

What makes a harmony "far-out"? Extensions to the basic triad. You'll learn to listen for the root -- the bass line -- the tonal center. Then you'll determine whether the 5th is perfect, augmented, or diminished. Then you'll listen for the chief color tone, whether it be a 6th, 9th, or whatever. You'll learn to listen, analyze, listen, analyze, and then listen some more. Grow big ears!

"How To Read Music...In One Evening!"

How to read music...in one evening!

If you've ever wanted to read music, but thought it was too complicated or would take too long, this exciting course is the solution to the problem. It reduces music to its 3 basic elements -- melody, rhythm, and harmony, and then shows how each element can be mastered almost overnight. Hilarious drawings make the book that comes with the course fun to read and act as "memory jogger" so that you won't forget what you've learned. The cassette & video go right along with the book and demonstrate each point.

"Seven Magic Steps To Speed Sight Reading!"

Sheet music

You can read most any type of music at sign -- if you follow these seven simple rules. It's not magic, unless you call understanding what you see magic. You'll learn how to instantly recognize intervals, inversions, arpeggios, chords, increase your eye span, and how to avoid losing your place in the music when you have to look down at your hands -- a problem lots of people have. Sight reading training at it's best.

"Reading Music Quickly Through Chord Analysis"

If you can scan a piece of music, and immediately recognize what chord is being broken up, your sight-reading ability will skyrocket. Why? Because you now see organization in the piece, not just a bunch of random notes on a white page.

In this course we use Bach's Prelude in C as an example, and we analyze the chord structure measure by measure all the way through the piece (you are furnished with a copy of the piece, of course).

Then you can use the techniques of chord analysis on any piece -- classical, pop, sacred, or whatever, to become a faster sight-reader.

Reading Chord Symbols In Classical & Popular Music

There are 2 types of chord symbols, both of which you should become familiar with, if you are not already. One type is an "absolute" symbol, and is used mostly in popular music: Cm7, F9, G6, and so. The other type is a "relative" symbol, in that it can be used in any key: I6, V7, IV, etc, and is used mostly in classical music. You'll learn both types of symbols in this course, and you'll get a chart that shows how they relate to one another.

"Learn to Play Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' "

With this course you'll get the original sheet music of the 1st movement -- the famous part -- so all you have to do is snap in the cassette and go to work. We start out by analyzing the entire piece in terms of form, chords, dynamics, and rhythm, and then we learn it slowly, section by section. Duane plays and explains each part carefully, so you can hardly miss. This course is not for beginners, but you don't have to be super-advanced to learn this, either.
