This piano lesson video is the second in a series of videos on how to create unique chord substitutions - making surprising chord changes that are individual for each song and each musical situation.
By using chord substitutions, old hymns and gospel songs can be transformed into completely new arrangements. In this video Duane demonstrates using the song “Fairest Lord Jesus” and transforms a gospel song which originally used only 4 or 5 chords into an arrangement using many, many chords — probably 20 or so.
“Silent Night”, like many songs, can be harmonized using just 3 chords. But there’s no limit to the number of chords that could be used — it is only limited to your imagination.
