There are literally TONS of things you can do to make your piano songs come to life and be far more interesting. There are countless things you can do to “fill up the empty spaces” in your piano playing, but the easiest kind of fill is a chordal echo. Like the word implies, you just echo the chord in force an octave or two above the previous chord. Listen to this short podcast and you’ll understand:
One of the most useful fillers for piano playing is the 2-1 breakup. It can be used in countless situations and is very easy to do. All you do is take any 3-note chord and play the top 2 notes and then the bottom note by itself. Then invert the chord up or down and do the same until the time alloted is used up.
